Kurt Farrugia’s role is not to take care of “the nuts and bolts of government”, but to “make government look good” (putting it very simply).

And as you admit, they have an excellent skill in public mood manipulation.

Unfortunately, I feel that a) in today’s “world”, perception has probably a higher impact than, say, 20 years back and b) considering the gullibility of the average Maltese, we’re doomed to a (very) long period of these idiots running the country.

They just have a single skill – but it is enough to keep them there.

OK these photos are stupid.

But I was having a chat with some relatively apolitical friends yesterday evening. Most comments were on Karmenu Vella: this is what struck me – they (the midget and Jo, I’d assume) managed to ensure that a few hours later people were discussing the Commissioner appointment, not the two resignations.

They’re probably brighter than we think. I really believe I am wrong.

[Daphne – If they were brighter than we think, they wouldn’t have had two resignations, a mess of patch-up appointments, and Karmenu Vella nominated as EU Commissioner. I know that when the situation in government is desperate, there is a tendency to look for any glimmer of hope that things might not be so bad, but the fact is: there is a bunch of incompetents in government whose only skill is manipulation of the public mood. And while that’s great for campaigning, it’s utterly useless in working the nuts and bolts of government. What is happening now is happening exactly because they are neither bright nor skilled; they are only cunning.]
