Most switchers switched because they threw out principles and personal integrity to the four winds. Others switched because Gonzi refused requests for iced-buns, so the usual troughers ran off, with a stream of crocodile tears running down their cheeks, to Joseph and his 4th floor. There they found a shoulder upon which to cry on and many promises of artificially sweetened lollipops and iced-buns.

Mannie was one of them.

I remember Mannie Galea in the Moviment Zaghzagh Partit Nazzjonalista. In fact he was a high-ranking official of the MZPN and very vociferous against Labour. He left politics and went into building development. Then when the writing was on the wall and it was clear that the Labour Party would win the last election he joined the bandwagon. Now he is ‘enjoying’ his poisoned Tripoli chalice. This man has no principles.

The appointment of Mannie Galea as Malta ambassador to Libya demonstrates the foresight of the PL government – when Mannie makes it back to Tripoli (unless he has already chickened out) he is going to find mounds and mounds of rubble with which to demonstrate Maltese technology in construction of giren.

The inhabitants of that shattered country will then be ever grateful to the Maltese government from across the sea.
