A television station that shows artistic and musical programmes isn’t a bad idea. However PBS already has a second television station: TVM2 which is supposed to air cultural programmes and documentaries.

Besides there’s no need to air concerts played by Maltese musicians, they could easily buy/ hire rights (I’m not sure how this usually works) for films showing concerts and ballets etc. I’m sure it will turn out to be cheaper than paying for a second national orchestra.

I’m also wondering how a second nationally financed orchestra will work out. Some professional instrument players are in really short supply in Malta; there are only about five harp players in Malta, and not much more flute and bass players. If the same players are chosen, will they have enough time for both orchestras? (Usually there isn’t.) And if they will have time for both, why do we need two orchestras?

In Malta, there aren’t enough professional musicians to form one semi-decent orchestra let alone a second one.
