Quality? Does it feature anywhere in their priorities. It’s “U ijja, mhux xorta, l-aqwa li naslu(?)”.

The “‘a’ as in apple” vowel has suffered the same fate, simply because it doesn’t exist in the Maltese language. “U ajma, dawn ic-cucati kollha…mhux xorta se tinftiehem?” is a typical excuse. This anything goes mentality is really making us look crass.

Belated welcome back…..I’d like to share a reflection I made earlier today.

The previous government spent much time and energy trying to raise standards in our country. At times this was perceived as over regulation particularly in the areas of environment or occupational health and safety. People were unhappy and went for change, msieken how do they sleep at night?

This morning whilst driving the children around in the space of 15 minutes I encountered two situations –

1. Two cars in front of me changed lane and blocked all remaining cars from driving through green lights as they were headed for the fork on the right where the lights were still red and some cars were waiting.

2. A truck carrying marble slabs stopped right in front of me as two slabs out of the several dozen which we uncovered and unsecured slipped off into the middle of the road. Ma tarax tying and covering……dak hela ta’ hin- whoever heard of safety

I sadly feel that the country is sliding rapidly and what’s more, other than your ardent supporters, it seems as though nobody cares about such things.

But isn’t it a case of people just feeling and knowing that they can now get away with such behaviour with impunity as standards are set starting at the top and we no longer seem to have any standards at all.

Please remember that we are now living in the ‘mhux xorta’ era and that when one cannot be great and is foolish he is often proud of his mediocrity.
