No. It cannot be. Triq Wied il-Kappar is always parked on both sides and if Smith was in front there was no way Sheehan could have forced him to stop.

All Smith had to do was turn right and step on it and find himself in Sliema Road in seconds.

The only logical explanation is that Smith was driving out of Gzira through Triq Wied il-Kappar, and having to enter it by making quite a wide circle, because there is always a car with its left mudguard crashed always parked at the very edge of the corner on one’s right, and most probably Smith lost a bit of control and over steered more to the right and found GM 14, I would say between the third and the fourth plot.

Apart from that, before making the right turn into this street there is one of those extra wide tarmac sleeping policeman which will surely send you off track if you do not control your speed before hitting it and turning right.

So I am of the opinion that Mallia is not to blame. The policeman/driver took the law into his hands.

To shoot one has to be in extreme danger, it does not mean that if you have a gun you can use it indiscriminately.

I am not trying to be impertinent but I so concur when you point out that the devil is in the detail. In this case, there are so many who are trying to minimize damage that only putting everything under the microscope will ensure that wool is not pulled in front of our eyes. After all, just in the last 24 hours, we have seen plenty of attempts.

That’s because the GM plate has to be removed when the car is not on official business. In any case, GM or no GM, it was still a plain clothed individual brandishing a gun. I would have done the same, especially knowing who’s in government.

That is, I should assume, because the driver was ‘off duty’ (since his minister, in the meantime, was attending an international conference at the Police Headquarters) and, therefore, he did not need the GM plate for the period.

Being a very conscientious police officer, of course, he also made sure that the fuel used for his trip from Floriana to Gzira and back should come out of tax-payers’ money.

And why would you assume that A) any foreigner would recognise those plates as being those of a Mnisterial car B) anyone, foreigner or Maltese would check number plates whilst having a gun waved around in your face and subsequenrly being shot at?

Can I assume you know what official cars look like in the Soloman Islands, Chile, Greece or indeed even the more well-known coumtries to the Maltese – the UK or Italy?
