I don’t see where ideology comes into this picture.

The political decision is clearly explained in that Busuttil had spent 3 years of his life arguing with the EC to allow this ‘deroga’, without which the No vote would have won the EU membership referendum, and therefore could not quite state that he will now vote against maintaining this position.

Clear so far? On a strategic level, had he decided that he would vote against, this would have reduced this referendum to a Joseph vs Simon contest, another PL – PN battle, and obviously the PN could not face this.

Why is it so difficult to understand?

This ‘team fever’ attitude on matters as serious as these is entirely the wrong one.

Why feel the need to stick up for anyone who is corrupt, or try to see extenuating circumstances?

Michael Falzon and Ninu Zammit did not just breach the trust of the electorate; they also breached the trust of the political party on whose ticket they stood for election, to say nothing of the trust of the prime minister/s who gave them a cabinet portfolio.

The very last people who should defend them are those whose trust they breached.

They would have us believe that the MLP/PL were/are so very pure.

They had better calm down in case there are cases where MLP/PL also had Swiss /or other countries’ bank accounts, unless of course these are kept hidden.

Problem is will the Maltese electorate go on believing the PL at all?

Does a true leader tie a key to his kite? Flashes of genius through electric stimulation might come in handy for this inept bunch of goombahs.
