Those who only go by what is legal or illegal would not lobby for laws to be changed and injustices to be righted. How would new laws be proposed and passed if no one recognized that wrongs need to be made right and that new crimes were emerging due to new technology and ways of life?

The behavior was “lewd” and “appalling,” the judge said, but it did not violate any statute on the books in Oregon. He did not say the act was not illegal therefore it was right.

After all we are seeing some who are doing all they can to hide the fact that they operate by what they can get away with.

It is interesting to note that ”when that idea comes up in the private sector, it’s likely that someone is trying to justify some profitable behaviour that is unethical but not-yet illegal.”

It should actually be easier to know what is right and what is wrong because this is usually your opinion based on your values and your morals and your upbringing.

Of course what is right or wrong for you might not be so for others but you do know.

You might not like saying what you think because you are afraid of being judged or of the feedback you might receive but you still know what’s right and what’s wrong.

Even the most hardened criminal usually knows what’s right or wrong for most of the things he does and then there will be things which he might not see as wrong but others might.

It is actual the legal bit that is a bit tricky and that is why we have courts, lawyers and judges, because what might be seen as illegal to someone might be proven to be completely legal in a court of law and vice versa.

And finally, what is Musumeci saying about morals being only for those who are ‘perfect’?

We should all have morals and a moral code. Having no morals is like being spineless.

It is the lack of morals which brings people like ex-ministers Falzon and Zammit to do what they did. I for one am very disappointed.

That aside, most people have a good enough sense of what is right or wrong in daily life without requiring a handful of degrees.

Sadly, politicians claiming that what they have done is not illegal (even though morally dubious) is a worldwide trait.

It’s just done more eloquently and with proper orthography.
