What’s your position on Bedingfield comparing the Koran to the Mein Kampf?

Do you believe Muslims should be flattered by comparing the Koran to such a noble book?

You would have been right if he compared IS with the Nazis. They are no different from the Nazis.

But Bedingfield compared the Koran (read by every practising Muslim) to Hitler’s Mein Kampf.

He wasn’t comparing only IS to the Nazis but every Muslim in the world.

Bedingfield was stupid to retweet that message – granted.

However, who does the PFCF think it is convincing with this statement?

“to equate the two…can only lead to contempt between different parts of the Maltese population”.

Does it really believe that it is the content of this tweet, and the likes, that is causing contempt between different factions of society?

Is it oblivious perhaps to the fact that contempt is there because people follow what else is happening in the world and witnessing what IS is doing in other countries?

Is the PFCF still in denial that the war waged by IS on the west is nothing but a war on religion?

I’m curious to know what the People for Change Foundation had to say following the Charlie Hebdo attack a couple of weeks ago, and how what Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons and the freedom of expression which we fight for fits with their statement that such tweets cause contempt.

The People for Change Foundation point out an aspect that is, in my view, fundamental.

Mr. Bedingfield is someone who is very close to our Prime Minister. One assumes that he is a person of trust to the Prime Minister.

He has clearly breached that trust and any self-respecting Prime Minister of a normal, sane and democratic country would have distanced himself from such a person by now.

Indeed, distancing himself is certainly not enough. The Prime Minister should sever all ties with this person.

Dr. Muscat must surely realise that he represents all people in this country, irrespective of their colour, creed and orientation, so it is simply not sensible of him to allow such a person to be within his circle of advisers/assistants.

He really has no other alternative.
