We’re not a nation state but a product to be sold. The prime minister is not the head of government but a salesman. History is not our identity but an attraction.

It’s exhausting. At some point in the late 90s, all that “Malta plc” bullshit went to our heads and it got worse ever since. The last prime minister to do any governing at all, or statesmanship, was Eddie Fenech Adami. His two successors did salesmanship, and any governing was just a side-effect.

The best thing about Simon Busuttil is his thoughts and words are free from marketing bullshit. A massively refreshing contrast to Joseph Muscat and Lawrence Gonzi. His party members, alas, are still caught up in government-by-brochure.
