It is actually very easy. If the airline knows that there is even a slight chance the pilot or co-pilot are unhealthy (mentally or physically) they should take no risks whatsoever.

The question to be asked is this: Would the passengers board the plane if they knew the pilot or co-pilot are mentally or physically unfit? The answer will surely be a resounding no.

Passengers have the right to know.

Without doubt, this will shake violently all the info about persons holding such high risk jobs. Pity that in Malta, this doesnt seem to be taken seriously.

If his parents knew he had problems, which is probably the case, I don’t see why I should feel sorry for them more than I do for the rest of the passengers’ parents

It is not unknown for parents to try and bulldoze a doctor into filling out a medical form for driving for a son or daughter even though they know perfectly well that their son or daughter may have existing medical or psychiatric illnesses that make them unsuitable for holding a driving licence.

All the more reason why doctors should not allow themselves to be bulldozed into filling such forms for anyone they do not personally know. People are known to lie to doctors in such cases.
