Another point. Muscat didn’t buy the operating company. He used public money to clear its liabilities. The company still belongs to the original shareholders.

He didn’t have any property to sell. From what I’m gathering on Facebook and elsewhere, a lot of people are confused about this issue so it has to be made clear.

The Government did NOT buy the Cafe Premier; the property already belonged to it. The €4.2 million were paid to make Mario Camilleri give up a lease that he wasn’t honouring anyway.

That’s OK.

But now how do you classify the 210,000 euros commission? That is clearly taxable income in the hands of the receiving person and as such should be declared in Camilleri’s tax return and be taxed.
