I think we should be fair to the Chairwoman.

She hasn’t squandered 4.2 million euros of public funds in the same way that the Prime Minister has.

She’s not on record to have promised an up and running power station within two years in the same way that Konrad Mizzi has/

And she’s not vying to replace Anton Refalo as Minister for Gozo in that she has enrolled Nuxellina on her team and to our knowledge, the Qormi Mayor is not her next of kin.

Nor could she ever be held accountable for employing a full-time driver for a part-time chairman since hers is a full time position which means that Luciano Busuttil will not be outdone.

There again, if Joe Mizzi holds a ministerial appointment than nobody including the Chairwoman, should be denied a chance to disprove himself or herself.

That said, I’m sure that Mrs Muscat has what it takes to fulfil her role. She may have made an ass of herself and her team in this interview, and given half a chance she may give a repeat performance to any overseas media who may care to interview her after 4.30 p.m., but she’s not such a disaster in relative terms.

I bet that she’s more than capable than all of us at putting on her best voice and at singing ‘Viva l-Labour, Viva l-Labour’, just like her prompter and media assistant Alessandra Pace sang ‘Malta tieghi, Malta tieghek’ in the Labour Party’s campaign video.

And what’s more, she’s capable of this at all times of day and night, tired or not.

This all boils up to one thing – Muscat is irresponsible and not fit for purpose.
Tarnishing Malta’s image by putting in charge incompetent persons to manage big events is unforgiveable.

The interview was excruciatingly embarrassing.

Meritocracy means individuals in society are rewarded according to their merits and achievements.

Therefore if meritocracy truly existed in Malta, it would have ensured that this high profile and key role was filled by the person most able to achieve its aims and objectives.

In this case it appears that meritocracy was again a dirty word to the ears of the government and they again consigned to the dustbin, with the post being given to a person based on their connections rather than their competence.

So much for adding local value to global value!

Will she make it through till November? After this exposure Joseph Muscat will surely appoint qualified personnel to help her.

She won’t give any more interviews and a public relations officer will do the talking from now on.
