The Care Quality Commission found a culture of bullying and low morale among staff at Whipps Cross Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust, which runs six hospitals across east London.

Joseph Muscat is 41. Unless you are 90, that is not young.

To anybody in his teens or 20s, 41 is old.

To anybody my age, 41 is middle-aged, just like us.

When my father was 41, I was fighting him because I wanted to stay out late.

When I was 41, I had three adult sons at university who left me in no doubt at all that ‘young’ meant them and not me.

The fact that Muscat has young children does not mean he is young himself. He and his wife had them late. In the ordinary course of events, they would have had at least one adult son or daughter at university by now.

When you say ‘young Joseph’ you suggest that youth is the main reason for his ineptitude. But at 41, it most certainly is not.

Oh dear.

The trouble is that sometimes newspapers and newsrooms don’t know what the real story is, so they bury it in the text and write the wrong headline.

In other words, it’s an overseas campus (not a medical school) for paying students (from China, the former Soviet republics, the Middle East and so on) – as you said, a cash cow for Queen Mary University.

Don’t assume that they will be teaching medicine – as you said, that’s impossible without access to a general hospital. They could be training in any related field – nutrition, for example.

Queen Mary University is not investing 200 million euros in anything at all in Malta, and will not be involved in any way with any hospital here.

All Queen Mary University is doing is setting up an overseas campus for 60 students per year.

The agreement appears to be for five years only.

The government, in two weeks’ time, will issue a call for proposals from those who are interested in spending 200 million euros to upgrade Gozo General Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital, and then be paid by the government to run them.

The prime minister deliberately misled the press and the public, and now this ‘200 million euros’ investment has stuck in people’s minds. There is no such investment.

If you read the press today, you will see that Queen Mary University is NOT investing anything, still less 200 million euros.

The government is going to put out a call for proposals, asking the private sector to invest 200 million euros in upgrading Gozo General Hospital and St Luke’s. That’s all. There is no investment.

Of course, this may be a Trojan horse to have China run them.
