Using an official email address cannot mask his lack of professionalism but it would a) provide an official record of all his correspondence and b) not breach security systems.

Has it occurred to you that it’s not only Muscat’s email that’s exposed to security risks? Anyone writing to him faces the same risk.

Whilst this is normally used for personalising ads, you can obviously see that all Gmail correspondence is open to Google & co.

So unless there is some special privacy agreement between the PM and Google, all his official business correspondence through Gmail is heavily processed by Google.

Actually I doubt any email is safe from eavesdroppers. There are only 2 points of exit for all electronic communication – i.e. one provided by MITA and the other provided by Vodafone – and therefore eavesdropping is relatively simple. It is encryption and not the email provider which provides security/safety. As a matter of fact, all email by banks and other such entities are encrypted at source.

I was referring to safety in terms of matters of national security.
