There were lot of children running around, playing on their tablets, etc. This is not a lending library, so it was not clear why the children were there. It is essentially a research library and most of the research work needs to be done there and, if possible, in a quiet environment.

Another member of staff pointed me to a table. I was made to sit on an uncomfortable chair (imagine spending hours there!) and asked (by another member of staff) what I wanted. The item was written on a piece of paper. The item was delivered on the table by yet another member of staff.

Asking for a photocopy of a document was a nightmare for the staff. One has to fill in another form (on A4 sheet) declaring details and stating what documents need to be photocopied and for what reason.

The photocopying is done by other staff – two at the photocopier.

Another staff member issues a receipt, hand written. It took him ages to do a simple multiplication – even though he did it with a calculator.

Another two staff were standing close by, caring only for their bit of gossip and grumbling.

Pity with all these members of staff, no one seemed bothered to do some dusting or repair/maintenance works.

I had the impression that these historical premises and their contents are not cared for. The fact that a fashion show was held there, proved my hunch.
