This is simply obscene. Even when it first hit the news I was alarmed at how little fuss was made about it.

The speed with which this deal was concluded in itself is very suspect. For Eur4.2million, the Government should definitely have instituted a court case.

The not so little detail that there was another offer on the table for the same amount from Anglu Xuereb, makes it even worse, if that were at all possible.

Of course the Government's consent would have been needed for the defaulting tenants to "sell" the business.

To think that the Government could have evicted Cities Entertainment, taken back the property and made a new agreement with Anglu Xuereb putting in all the necessary safeguards for the archives, and make a significant profit for the country.

What the Government did is the worst possible option for the country. It could have evicted them and gone after them for all their arrears.

They would have been lucky if the Government simply evicted them and waived their dues to Government. But to pay their loans off and a commission to boot is beyond outrageous.

Someone beyond Mario Camilleri and the Curmis must have benefited from this deal. It just doesn't make any sense at all.
