Just as there are Labour supporters of the diehard Mintoffian kind, there are also Nationalist supporters who still have the pre-Fenech Adami era right-wing-bella-patria mentality which makes them hostile towards black people, Muslims and any suggestion that Malta itself has any Muslim heritage at all or historical connections with North Africa.

That is why I still don’t like the Labour Party, because it still has people with the kind of backward mentality that the Nationalist Party ditched years ago when Fenech Adami moved it more to the centre.

There is also the possibility of the typical Maltese insular mentality which transcends political beliefs.
