It is a beacon of democracy, particularly compared to all of its neighbours – all of which are dictatorships or, in the case of Lebanon, deeply flawed democracies.

That it has expelled migrants might mean it has breached international law concerning refoulement. It doesn’t mean that Israel isn’t a democracy.
