He was gay-friendly and would have been eligible for the LGBT Award. If gay pride parades had been around in his day, he’d have attended.

Because he’s a national hero.
Because Gay Fascism is the national ideology.

I am not saying he should be revered, but the most entitled people in the country do. So the least they could do is admire him for the reason I’ve mentioned or else shut up.

I lived in Malta till the early 60s and had never heard of Manwel Dimech back then.

I’m sorry Joe Fenech, but Dimech must be judged by his actions and their consequences.

His ridiculous plot to take one of His Majesty’s smaller patrol corvettes out to sea and threaten to blow it up should his requests not be met, was, to say the least, ridiculous.

Even because the British navy at the time comprised some 5,000 vessels, dreadnoughts, battlecruisers and all. I can imagine the panic at Whitehall.

The consequence was a total setback to any progress made by all parties to the formation of a constitution. Not that the Brits wouldn’t have come up with another excuse. Pero’, li twaqqa’ l-gebla fuq saqajk b’dak il-mod, ci vuole talento.

Which is why Mintoff made of him the Giovanni Battista, he being the Christ obviously, but made sure to dress up as a toffee nosed twat, pipe, horses and tweed must haves.

And that makes me an irredentista prima maniera, crispy.

In the picture from right first row 2nd lady and a man her brother , dressed in black are two out of three children of notoriius Gelardu Azzopardi. He was a high official in the communist party which eventually fell to pieces. I recall how stubborn he was in his ideology. Either you agree with him or you will face his wrath. That is democracy for you. They celebrate a monster which shames our national history. Judging by the picture none of them smile.

Its 2060, and Premier Stargazer Muscat, grandchild of the great Michelle Imperatrice, Spouse of the Prime Minister, holds the crowd of followers of the Optimist Party on the edge of their seats as he describes and honours the feats of the late Cyrus Engerer, a soldier of steel who fought for gay rights and gay marriage and gay times, and who was convicted and nearly sent to prison for his gay beliefs and who walked in the footsteps of Manwel Dimech from the tender age of 36.

And behind Stargazer stands a full-bodied statue of Cyrus Engerer covered in rainbow-striped plastic. Oh what a glorious history we have inherited.
