No, I wouldn’t say so. He’s popular within the Rabat ranks and that’s it.

He saw us and probably recognised us. If we did file a report he would have known that it was us and would have spread the word.

The hunting community in Rabat is rather dangerous or as Daphne says, uncivilized, and I don’t want any trouble.

I agree. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to minimise anything. I was referring to how people behave when they are given power to kill animals and what, in my opinion, that does to the people involved.

That’s because you have to be really gullible to believe him.

People who are uninformed about birds will look at a picture of a turtle dove and a picture of a cuckoo and say, miskin, he made a mistake; they really look alike.

But the fact is that to somebody who is familiar with birds – like Stefan Micallef who has been hunting for years – they don’t.

Poachers are not hunters who shoot protected species. They are men who hunt on land where they have no hunting rights.

They are people who enter another man’s estate so as to hunt game which is not theirs. The game on an estate belongs to the owner of the estate.

‘Poacher’ is not a word that can be used in the Maltese context because we have neither estates nor the concept of ownership of game on an estate.
