According to Chinese Nationality Law, the Chinese government does not recognize any Chinese citizen’s dual nationality.

I have a Chinese friend who also holds a USA passport. Two years ago this friend was stopped in the airport on his way out of China back to his home in the US, because he has no US visa on his Chinese passport.

So he presented his US passport to the immigration official. He was told that he either renounces his Chinese citizenship there and then, or he has to go to the US embassy in China to apply for a visa, using his Chinese passport.

In the end he just had to let them put an official stamp of “CANCELLED” on his Chinese passport and handwritten “No longer Chinese citizen”.

He was went back to the States with a verbal warning (threat).
