Ms Galea, perhaps you are the one that needs to look up the internet, as the more I look the more I confirm what I have said. If there is anything reliable on the internet regarding Von Braun experimenting on humans it seems to be very well hidden. Since you seem to have found it post a link and enlighten us all. It costs you nothing.

More likely though you are entirely mistaken and are assuming that all German scientists were involved in human experimentation. Perhaps you need to research the subject more deeply to get a better idea who did what. I have a feeling you’re basing what you say on some documentary you saw on TV but you don’t quite remember the details.

Oskar Groening has already admitted his moral culpability. The trial is about legal culpability and, therefore, about punishment.

We intuitively feel the pull of two different views about punishment which sometimes conflict with each other.

The ‘retributive’ view is that justice requires that a person should get what he deserves while the ‘utilitarian’ view is that punishment should serve a useful purpose such as the reform of the guilty party or as an example to others.

But is the trial solely about ‘punishment’? There is something else. The trial makes us come face to face with ourselves.

Oskar Groening was an ordinary book-keeper. We are not quite sure how we would have acted in those circumstances.

We desperately wish that we would have resisted the pressures of the authorities or the promise of advancement but we are not quite sure.

We need to be constantly reminded about what happened to strengthen our resolve to resist.
