1. Before 2012, the company was not an insurance company but an insurance agency.

2. That’s why Middlesea was the insurer, because Allcare was the agent.

3. In 2012 Allcare ceased to be an insurance agency and became an insurance company instead.

4. So obviously, it insured its own clients and could no longer act as an agent for Middlesea.

But you are right and correct on the point that Allcare should have informed its clients.

Large business risks in Malta tend to be co-insured which means, for example, three or four insurance companies insure the risk jointly between them.

The broker placing the risk has a lot of influence on which insurance companies participate, at what share, and at which price, because the leading insurer normally sets the premium rates.

As an insurer, having a friendly broker to pass business your way can be very fruitful, more so if you actually own that broker.

Many insurance companies in Malta also own a brokerage company, but they use it to place business with other insurance companies that they do not write themselves, and not to pass on business to their sister companies.

Allcare is the exception in this.

Some people who get all possible benefits, including work pushed their way, to own and manage a company are bailed out AND put on the state payroll.
