They never know whether or when they are going to be moved and therefore can’t plan to pool resources to obtain a normal-sized product at a more efficient price.

C. K. Pralahad, now deceased, wrote about the huge profits generated from such workers – and others in their position – in his book “The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid,” where he proposes inclusive capitalism.

He was a wonderful man and genuinely concerned about the workers’ plight. At the time he wrote the book, workers couldn’t afford a mobile phone and paid a mobile phone holder for the worker community for each phone call made.

Coffee, tea, shampoo, washing powder were bought by the sachet. Water was bought in small bottles.

It was day-to-day existence, and they were housed in highly populated dormitories. Officially, no one works when the temperature is above 50 degrees, but officially it never is above 50 degrees.
