It is not because of what she is paid that Phyllis Muscat should be competent, but because of the responsibilities of the post she has been given.

I use the verb ‘given’ advisedly.

Even if the post were unpaid, she would still have to be competent and deliver.

There is a limit to how many incompetent persons Muscat can stuff in as persons of trust.

When persons who are not fit for purpose are given sensitive positions, it is bound to backfire.

Soon Muscat will bring himself and his government into a ‘checkmate’ position.

The sad thing is the Nationalists are going to find themselves with no option but to choose their friends, immaterial of their colour.

And this only because Muscat’s friends have proved to be so incompetent that there is no other choice.
