These are universities set up to cater for rich kids who want to get a university education, not so much in view of future prospects but more for social status and for something to do before they become housewives or take over their daddy’s business.

The American universities of Beirut, Cairo, Dubai and elsewhere are unconnected.

They have different origins and are separate institutions.

I have the feeling you are right. At first impression, it would seem that it’s a campus of the DePaul university based in Malta.

However, I would imagine the only association with DePaul is that they are sponsoring or just advising the developer on setting up a private American university in Malta. If at all.

DePaul and ‘American University (of)’ are separate outfits.

Someone, somewhere, has botched up badly. I get the uneasy feeling that what happened here is DePaul University = dik universita Amerikana = an American university = American University.
