Mintoff was a demagogue who, together with his notorious cohort, practically brought the country to ruin, causing the greatest brain drain Malta ever experienced.

Malta, at the time, was known for all the wrong reasons.

Mintoff was idolised only by those he could buy through handouts, thanks to the money he managed to beg from Gaddafi and elsewhere, rather than through stimulation of the domestic economy.

Malta became the country it is today thanks to the vision and generally able management by successive Nationalist administrations.

Unfortunately, several of Mintoff’s gang are still around today in positions of power and Muscat is again taking the country to ethical depths that we hadn’t seen in over two decades.

If the EU is as hated as you say, then Muscat would have no problem taking us out of it, but instead he chooses to sell its passports to anyone who can show him the money.

He has learned his Mintoff catechism well.

I liked the ‘odd couple’ bit. Mintoff and Ghaddafi were truly regarded as the odd couple by other nations.
