The fact that most other places in Malta are even uglier still makes it ‘nice’ only in the relative sense. In absolute terms it is awful.

It bears no resemblance at all to the place in which I lived for 25 years and whenever I go there I shudder and can’t wait to drive out again.

Sliema is now full of Taghna Lkollers and hamalli tal-flus u mittilkless, that’s true, but it doesn’t mean that everyone else has left.

Astrid Vella is a case in point.

Many of those who voted for Manuel Mallia and ‘Joseph’s Movement’ are real, actual Sliemizi, not latterday arrivistes.

They are the kind of Sliemizi who always voted for the Nationalist Party semi-reluctantly, thinking that it was beneath them because the Nationalist Party is so very lower-middle-class and full of lawyers rather than business people like them.

I really wouldn’t know. I think it is a further contraction of “gew” which would sound like “go” when talking rapidly.

A friend of mine from Qrendi used to use “m’jedx” as a normal contraction for mhux qieghed.

Have there been any since March 2013?

Malta Enterprise seems to be too busy hiding all traces of Sai Mizzi to find time to bring any new foreign investment.
