If Hitler’s parents hadn’t had sex at that particular time on that particular day, tens of millions of people wouldn’t have died, there would have been no World War II, no Cold War and no Iron Curtain & c & c.

The fact that Hitler’s parents had sex at that particular time, that split second, changed the history of the 20th century and the face of Europe.

It’s a fact. But you can’t reason like that.

Oh right, just as painters should be forever indebted to the inventors of paint and canvas.

That’s not how it works, though, is it.

I think that we’re on totally different wavelengths.

Do I think there’s more to it than the ability to write and communicate?

I know there’s more, much much more, for your thoughts and ideas to reach your audience, but of course all of that is taken for granted and hardly anyone ever stops to think about it, and why should they?

For one to communicate anything, nothing has changed much since prehistoric times, really. Pigment to cave wall, chisel to slab, quill to parchment, ink to paper, fingers to keyboard … not much more for the communicator to do.

But for you to reach your audience, there are armies of people who chose to spend their time writing incalculable pages of programming code behind the scenes for most of their waking hours to enable your thoughts to appear as a “blog” for your readers to read whenever and wherever they fancy only seconds after you click the publish button, constantly being improved and updated transparently without anyone batting an eyelid.

Ironically, the less their hard work is noticed, the better its quality.

So let’s not write them off so nonchalantly, shall we?

I don’t know about the technical side, you say? Hardly. I’m very much an integral part of the technical side.

It’s exactly because we constantly better ourselves in what we do that people like you need to be less technical today than they had to be yesterday, and tomorrow they’ll need to be even less so.

It not being complicated is very much due to our hard work, and not because there’s “nothing to it”.

I don’t write blogs. I write blogging software, and that’s just a small part of what I do.

You may know when to write ‘state’ and when to write ‘say’ better than I do and your knowledge of English may be superior to mine, but then my knowledge of other languages – through which ironically I help you tell so many people how good your English is – is not only superior to yours, you simply wouldn’t even know where to start.

In other words, what I read may not be the right things that allow me to write better English, but they are the right things nonetheless, things that rightly allow so many people to pop in and dazzle their eyes by your mastery of the language, among other much more interesting things.

So no, I don’t deserve you talking down to me at all.

Does this make me “better” than anyone else as a person in any way? Of course not. And inversely, just because you know English better than I do does not make you any better than me.

You chose your path, and I chose mine, so let’s both get on with it.

You don’t know about the technical side if you think there’s very much more to it than the ability to write and communicate.

It’s not that complicated.

But some people like to kid themselves that the only reason that they don’t have a blog with a very high readership is because they don’t have the “technical support” or “the money” or they’re “not being paid by the PN”.

Tosh. But it’s easier for people like that to console themselves with lies than to face the truth.

I’m sorry, but you just don’t get it. It’s completely different.
