He was out of work, had no income, and at 55 had two small children who had thus far been supported, as was he, by his wife.

John Dalli – a truly corrupt politician of the sort Vassallo had spent years protesting against – offered him a job and he took it.

I am not saying that Vassallo is corrupt, but something else entirely.

When the Commissioner goes, they go too, unless the Commissioner’s successor handpicks them again.

The only reason Harry Vassallo ‘didn’t suck taxpayer funds’, as you put it, while he was AD chairman is because he was never elected to parliament.

He was more than happy to ‘suck taxpayer funds’ by working for one of the most corrupt politicians in Maltese history.

He did not work ‘for the environment’. He worked for John Dalli, as an employee is his secretariat. Learn the difference.

Harry Vassallo is 60 and with an abysmal to nonexistent work record. What exactly were his job opportunities? That’s why his only choice – faced with a wake-up call very late in life about the need to make a living and help pay the bills – was to get a job through political patronage.

And he has just got another job through political patronage, this time from Labour with Dalli’s help again.

My point was that he did not use his (then) post of AD chairperson to suck taxpayer funds, and neither did he use his previous political activism to some government post.

The fact that his interest, research and commitment towards the environment made him an ideal person to contribute within the European Commission’s Environment Directorate – well after he resigned from politics – has no bearing on what you are implying in your post.

What on earth are you saying, Mr Borg? Harry Vassallo has lived off the taxpayer for the last five years, starting when John Dalli gave him a job in his European Commission office. He is still living off the taxpayer now, with his new job at Malta’s permanent representation office in Brussels.

Ask the same question for all the persons you mentioned, including the motley crew that warmed successive parliaments’ and quangos’ boards’ seats.
