You are typical of that: you think that when people are not crying, screaming and saying ‘I love you’ all over the place and on Facebook, they have no emotion.

In reality, those with real feelings prefer to keep them private. The louder and more public the boast, the less certain the truth of the emotion. It’s called ‘protesting too much’.

No. These matters are the outcome of centuries of social evolution and the subject of vast fields of study.

Who says whether they are ‘appropriate’ or not? You, for starters?

This is about 1. inappropriate emotions, and 2. inappropriate public display of appropriate emotions.

The fact that you feel emotions does not mean you have to put them on public show.

What is wrong is that we men think we are above emotions! Nonsense!

Simon Busuttil is Opposition leader. Everything he does should be with a view to gaining votes.

He should do nothing which gains no votes and beyond that affects perception of him negatively.

What did he gain with that picture of his mother and the accompanying comment? Nothing.

What did he lose? A smidgeon of the approval with which women regard him.

And not just the women. It will also have bothered many men, unless they are gay and take their mother everywhere.
