As for the journalists, there were even more of them back then. And they did nothing but prop up this piece of shit. Just like they did with Franco Debono.

Making John Dalli European Commissioner was an act of corruption, as was making Karmenu Vella European Commissioner.

In both situations, the relevant prime minister chose the individual not on the basis of the best man for the job but on the basis of his own personal convenience in ridding himself of an awkward problem.

In other words – he, and not the country or the European Commission, came first.

Your attempts at justifying or rationalizing the selection of Dalli as European Commissioner show that you do not properly understand democracy and still think of the prime minister as being in charge and free to do what he pleases without democratic controls or imperatives.

That is reflected in your ‘Gonzi put the police commissioner onto him’. Gonzi did nothing of the sort. The Nationalist government had many flaws, but one of them was not the inability to understand or refusal to respect the separation of powers.

The Police Commissioner acted on his own initiative, as required by law.

There is no system anywhere that operates on auto-pilot. There are people behind systems that need to push buttons so that systems operate. Malta is a prime example to see whether buttons are being pushed or not. The conclusions and results we are having should be obvious.
