They used to send some of their toughest and shrewest operators – all career diplomats – in the years 1971 to 1987.

They switched to political appointees and campaign fundraisers after that.

Now we have a career diplomat again (because Labour is back in power and you never know what they’re going to be up to) and she leaps into bed with them – metaphorically speaking, of course.

Should’ve seen her gushing over Agatha Barbara, the bravest woman in the history of the world, braver than Rosa Parks and Helen Keller put together.

That’s completely wrong. The US ambassador is obliged only to represent the interests of the US government/state.

All else is discretionary.

Let’s call a spade a spade and stop referring to it as the American University and call it what it really is, the Jordanian Hotel. I think its name should be Hotel Premier. Joseph should like that one.
