Perhaps you missed the news some days ago when a woman, who was not travelling that day, got to the luggage retrieval area by flashing her passport at a guard.

''Ms Williams was not on the same flight but had gained access to the baggage claim area at the airport after she showed her passport to the soldier on duty and explained that she had lost her luggage when she arrived in Malta on a Ryanair flight in May.''

''In court, Ms Williams said that she had gone to the airport to pick up luggage which had not arrived when she came to Malta on a Ryanair flight in May.''

These people got past the gate check and through an emergency door to get to the apron.

Now put the two breaches together and make sure you are not mistaking what you assume should/not happen at an airport and what is actually going on.

Note that the luggage area also ends in an exit at the arrivals lounge 'guarded' by AFM 24/7.

What is of note is that no journalist has asked how the woman who was not travelling that day actually accessed the area, what steps were taken with the persons 'guarding' the area that day and steps to stop unauthorized persons and anything which they carry, from getting access to flights.

I cannot even establish if the woman was charged with a breach of security which to me is beyond strange.

As a frequent airport user I would love to believe that MIA has top notch 24/7 security cover. As a person with a brain I have to ask if this is true.
