Besides, plenty of people do not follow any news and don’t really care what’s going on. I’m sure my parents don’t even know who’s the Deputy Prime Minister, they just know that Labour is bad (very enlightening right?)

Also, as Daphne has pointed out several times, people don’t like being told they’ve voted for the wrong side so they keep their blinkers firmly on; and as someone said here, until their pockets are being touched they couldn’t care less.
