You know, I really can't understand why the Nationalist Party is asking the government to report the matter to the police, and why the Labour Party is talking of criminal liability.

This strikes me as being entirely a civil matter, with no scope for involvement of the police.

If I ask a contractor to replace the ceiling of my house, and 10 years down the line cracks appear because he has skimped on the concrete, I don't go to the police because it's not a criminal matter.

I sue him in the civil court.

This saga about the hospital concrete is a replay of the Labour Party's much ado about the building of the Gozo General Hospital.

The Labour Party was against that building and created a scandal about it, as they are doing now.

Never in the history of Malta has there ever been a political party that truly deserves to be known as the "NO" party, the really negative party.

Just to mention a few of the projects to which they shouted and screamed NO: the hospitals in both Malta and Gozo, the international airport, the Delimara power station, Independence, the new telephone system, Parliament House, the privatisation process, local councils, European Union membership.

The list is really interminable.

If there was fraud in the construction of the hospital, all those responsible should be taken to court.

Or will this go the same way as the case of the smart meters or the John Dalli case?
