It’s impossible for journalists to pay a surprise visit to a factory. They have to get past security.

In November 2014 the Employment and Training Corporation was already run by cronies of the Labour Party.

Any inspection on this particular friend-of-Labour factory would therefore be all for show.

So what about the visits plus interviews from the journalists of Malta Today without prior notice as well as the sudden inspection including interviews to individual workers carried out by inspectors from labour office in Nov. 2014 …. Today is year 2015, world changes day by day , no one is frightened to no one …China is not the country imaged by you 20 or 30 years ago when there was countable democracy…

Because when the management knows that people are visiting, they make sure they get to see what they want them to see.

And because the staff are too frightened to talk.

If people are secure in their skin, they simply improve themselves through education and better manners, speaking better and so on, without reinventing themselves completely and pretending to be something or somebody quite different.

There is the world of difference between adopting a completely alien accent – what Ramona Frendo did is the equivalent of, say, a Dutchman speaking with a New York accent, hence the weirdness – and creating an entire persona from scratch.

I am not a psychiatrist or psychologist and this is not the place for discussions of this nature, but simply put, when an individual dumps the self for an invented persona, he or she is constantly acting from morning to night, remembering the role, forever on stage or before the camera.

They constantly need to prompt themselves with ‘flash cards’: “I am kooky”; “I am bubbly”; “I am the life and soul of the party”; “I am sophisticated”. Dr Frendo’s Facebook communication is a classic example of somebody with an invented persona using her Timeline to further the ‘character’ she has created for herself.

In order to create a fake persona, you first have to clear out the real self. Over years of faking it, you effectively become an empty shell and need to use ‘signifiers’ to remind yourself and others what you are meant to be.

I know more than a few people like this. Maltese people are particularly prone to it because of the various pathologies in our closely-confined society.
