Are we back to trying to build the largest, longest, biggest structures in the world? Mintoff/Lorry Sant had built the world’s longest runway, the biggest dock amongst others. Now these two pillars; are those the foundations for the statue of Muscat, I mean Colossus ?

I think those ‘walls’ are actually pieces of wharf that will eventually be laid horizontally over pylons. The MEPA permit is for an extension of the wharf.

However the last permit (PA/4127/08) issued for the site in 2008 was a renewal of an earlier one (PA/1153/04) and was given with the following proviso:
“1 – a) This development permission is valid for a period of FIVE YEARS from the date of this notice but will cease to be valid if the development is not completed by the end of this five year period.”

No further renewals have been conceded so the work is technically illegal. By right they should have submitted a fresh application.
