I don’t think it is as sophisticated as hypnosis. It’s about mindlessness and the way people latch onto convenient phrases that are supposed to mean something.

These phrases operate as ready-made responses to opposition and criticism. People don’t need to think; all they need is to dish out pre-packaged arguments as responses.

I notice it mostly when reading the highly politicised comments on the newspaper websites and when challenging people’s religious beliefs.

2. This is trickier than it seems. It’s from Paper A of the Advanced Level Taghna Lkoll Ezami tal-Haxi.

Clue: They are rolled. Joe Grima has the larger moment of inertia. The speed depends on the conversion of potential to kinetic energy. Assume Joe Grima and Jason Micallef both have rigid bodies.

Question 2b (Really Advanced Shiv Level Haxi Exam): What if you drop the assumption of rigidity? Jason is mostly bone and muscle. Joe Grima is mostly flaccid lipids.

In reply to John. Just a minor correction. It is called zero gravity and demons are not at play. It happens when a body experiences a condition of apparent weightlessness and when a body in a gravitational field moves in such a way as to counterbalance its gravitational force.

We need ‘il-Madonna taz-Zonqor’ to save us from Joseph-Joseph’s university.

It’s sad to think that an opportune ‘apparition’ at Zonqor Point and a demand by the Madonna to build a shrine will probably turn more people against the university than any rational argument possibly could.
