Muscat has so debased himself he’s become Tsipras’ most vocal critic, when all he should do is shut his mouth and lobby hard for Malta’s share.

Malta’s foreign policy in the 1970s and 1980s was a reflection of that mentality and ignorance: Iron Curtain Europe, the Soviet Union, North Korea, Red China, and Muammar Gaddafi.

So no thanks. Give me the European Union any day.

I am talking about geo-political perspectives, Daphne, not breakfast in America and metrosexual progression, which is all part of the dumbing down process.

We have no foreign policy to speak of, apart from the expansionist, subversive EU foreign policy that will one day get us into major trouble, so we act as if we don’t need to talk about one – just take the EU line, including hook and sinker.

When I was a child in the 1960s, there were people in inland villages like Siggiewi who had never seen the sea.

Most Maltese could not even swim.

Very many Maltese never left the village from birth to death and going to Valletta was a major expedition undertaken once in a blue moon.

When I was a child in the 1970s, people outside the environs of Sliema & c were so different to the ones I knew that in my childish imagination they might as well have been from a different race.

When I was a child? You’re the same age. Like me, you will remember people growing up without bathrooms, not knowing what shampoo or toothpaste are, eating only the most basic food, mainly illiterate.

When I had my first child in 1986, and brought out a packet of cereal (Coco-Pops, as I recall) in the ward canteen, all the other new mothers, who were from a very different background, gathered round me as though I was Captain Cook, whispering to each other about me as though I was foreign and couldn’t understand them, and egging each other on to be the first to ask me what I was eating. I then spent the next few minutes distributing Coco-Pops and explaining about breakfast cereal.
