I think the article I'm linking quite nicely adds a bit more context to your Sette Giugno statement. Yes, it was about bread but we often do something beneficial by accident.

Liars and thieves. Always have been. Always will be.

Unfortunately, even with all this evidence in their faces, more than half the Maltese choose to vote for them. Unbelievable.

And also, possibly even more unfortunately, the PN never put things right. Whilst under Fenech Adami, we may have had 'xoghol' and 'liberta', unfortunately the 'gustizzja' was never delivered.

Nobody who had previously looted the state, as these people are doing now, was ever brought to justice.

And what about the people killed under the Labour administration? What about the brutal killers of Lorry Sant's accountant for example? Unfortunately these crimes were forgotten.

If the PN never puts these things right, then we have this to look forward to every time Labour is elected.

And with all their ill-gotten-gains, they have much, much more money in their coffers with which to outflank the PN -- so once in power, they can continue to sack the state and become even more powerful.

With a media-man at their helm, who understands the small-mindedness of the Maltese, and how to use the media to his favour, I am not sure that we are ever going to be free of these people.

But I suppose I am being negative, like all Nationalists.

Living in fear and keeping your head down, Chris, is not a normal life lived in peace, but the polar opposite of that.

You really do have no idea of the terror in which people lived.

No, Gaddafi's 'demise' came about because the people on either side of Libya, in Egypt and Tunisia, were in revolt and it was obvious that the people of Libya would seize the opportunity and do the same.

As soon as the revolution began in Egypt (the revolution in Tunisia was in progress already) I wrote that Gaddafi's days were numbered because Libya would be in revolution next.

But then I knew just how much Libyans hated the man - hated and feared him viscerally. My Maltese 'we do business with Libya' friends pooh-poohed my views and said that Libyans loved Gaddafi.

I pointed out to them that, by virtue of the fact that their only contact with Libya was for business purposes, the only people they knew were Gaddafi state fixers.

Of course it was, and much worse too.

The real trouble is that in Malta NOTHING was 'sold to us' about Gaddafi because his Libya was the source of so much money for Maltese businessmen.

So you won't find many Maltese who watched video footage of public hangings in football stadiums, or read the accounts of those people who relatives disappeared in the night.

Muammar Gaddafi was a murderous and bloody dictator whose subjects lived in utter fear, too scared to speak about him even between four walls.

Honestly I expected more funds would be collected. I mean, I'm sure Electrogas and its minions would have made a contribution.

Oh, but Electrogas has a net worth of 10,000 euros, and suddenly it finds itself with the government guaranteeing its loan with the Bank of Valletta.

No sane bank would have lent the company any money, not with the shareholders not putting in any assets in.
