I asked myself the same question the first time I saw those barriers.

That car park is now always empty as a result of the payment system installed. Serves them right for imposing it.

The only time Ta’ Qali is full is during some festival, football match or fair. Other than that there’s ample place to park.

Up till last year, they did raise the barrier and let everyone through, unless it was the barrier itself which was malfunctioning at the time.

The car park adjacent to the basketball complex in Ta’ Qali has a big sign stating ‘Public Car Park’, yet prior to this year’s trade fair at the conventions centre there, it had barriers and machines installed that require payment to park one’s car.

Who do these proceeds go to and why is payment being requested for parking one’s car on public areas?
