Can we just stop beating about the bush and just come to the conclusion that all this power station really was a load of nonsense?

I mean, real nonsense.

It is easy to get people to rally behind something that is automatically popular. Lower electricity bills; no one is going to say no to that.

Couple that with the fact that Maltese people love it when the government spends loads of money on 'projects' and you have the perfect setting for someone like Muscat and his power station.

Yes, I do believe that many Maltese people love it when their government spends a lot of money, no matter what it is for, because they think it makes Malta important, makes it matter more in the world.

It is the national equivalent to spending thousands of pounds to do up your bathroom even though you cannot afford to, just to impress.

On a national level it makes many people think that the government is serious. Saving money and spending prudently is viewed with bitter contempt and anger: an admission that Malta is not a wealthy country.

This then leads to the ludicrous assumption that the government is worthless because it is making Malta look poor.

Get this into your thick skulls: Malta is not a rich country. I know it is going to hurt some, and I am sure many people are going to jump in here with "we are rich in heritage. We have x free and y free".

Sure, I don't dispute that. But let's face it, Malta isn't exactly a big player in the world, and at 450,000 population we will never be.

Remember, there are now 7,000,000,000 people in the world. Malta is as important as a drop in the ocean.

What we should be doing with our money is spending it prudently, finding ways around our difficulties, and being happy with our lot.

If we keep focusing on how the rest of Europe lives, we are only going to delude ourselves.

But that doesn't seem to matter to so many people. " We're going to be the best in Europe", yelled Muscat. Well, it seems Muscat and his plan to make Malta the best in Europe is about to fail, and fail miserably.

And not for the reasons he is going to convince himself of.

Muscat thinks that to make things possible you have to think positive. Thinking positive has magical qualities, and will make the universe arrange itself in order to attract what you want. It's the basic principle on which NLP and "The Secret" are based.

Any negative thoughts are a threat to your success. In the process, pointing out flaws, and in this case reality, become areas of anxiety. These become signifiers of what you are: negative.

This process can be painful for many who don't buy into the Think Positive religion. For those who do, though, they provide the best scapegoat for anything.

"People are poor because they want to be."

"You failed because you wanted to."

Those signifiers become the foundation for discrimination. The assumptions of the "positive thinker" are acted upon, and turn into actions of discriminatory nature.

In this respect, it is very similar to racism, or homophobia. Therefore I believe that when this project fails, Muscat and his buddies will blame the Nationalists because it was their negativity that brought it upon the country.

Thinking positive ends up taking on what I would describe as pathological obsession. Imagine the captain of the Titanic insisting that the ship won't sink, even though water is above the bow.

Yes, that's what you end up looking like when you base the success of a project on your ability to maintain a sanguine disposition.

This forced self delusion ends up being hard to shake, and I believe Muscat will claw and scramble his way out of this. I have very little faith in this emotional and deluded ignoramus.

I think someone, anyone, needs to get hold of all the information to which we are being denied access and begin publishing it. All of it. Now. Before it is too late.

Incredible. Gasol's 2014 annual report is dated 11th September 2014 (p. 3).

The same report indicates a loss of GBP10.6 million, 3 million of which are the result of goodwill impairment.

That reply to George Pullicino's question in parliament is dated 28th October 2014, almost six weeks after the annual report was published.

Even if the government used the previous year's annual report, Gasol was already GBP4 million in the red.

The government would have known that Gasol was in financial dire straits.
