I'm afraid you are partially wrong here. It is, in fact, an extreme form of parkour. Parkour does not require ground level obstacles, and is commonly performed on high-rise buildings and includes dangling off edges and jumping from one building to another. In effect, traceurs who only perform on ground level obstacles are considered to be amateurs. As for negotiating obstacles, that would be part of the process of climbing up the crane. One of the more famous traceurs performing this kind of stunt is James Kingston, from Southhampton, who's mostly known for climbing London landmarks, such as the Wembley arch.

Regardless, I think it's an insane sport, just like most extreme sports. I do think that he's too young to attempt these kind of stunts that are usually performed by highly trained and highly experienced professionals.

How could one just talk out of there arse and blame the parents because this young boy is hanging down a crane. I myself knowing the traceur and his family's background, I can assure you his parents have given him and all his other siblings unconditional love and care. I personally myself have never agreed with him doing this. But never or will ever blame his parents!

There is nothing new under the sun, Miss Sciberras. These are not 'little things' or 'doing what he loves', as you put it. This is a personality problem that will lead to far worse things if it is not checked now.

There are young men like this in every generation, and their problems with risk manifest in whatever happens to be around at the time. In my parents' generation, they played Chicken with their cars on the otherwise empty roads of those days and ended up mangled or dead.

In the in-between generation, they burgled the houses of their parents' friends, got into endless trouble and ending up living on the streets or close to it in London, occasionally working as drug-mules for their former school-friends.

And in my generation, they wound up dead on heroin.

So both as a parent and as somebody with a certain degree of life experience, I can tell you that you are very wrong and that this boy has a very big chance of ending up really badly once he moves - as is inevitable - from hanging off cranes to the next thrill.

I have every sympathy for his parents, who probably know that and are going through a hell of anxiety.

This is not about protection, though, is it. This is about being alert to the fact that a personality disorder of that nature will eventually lead to situations that are far more grave than dangling off a tower crane.

'Dak nofs ras' can end up serving 20 years in jail because he thought it was a fantastic wheeze to ferry somebody's suitcase of emeralds from Brazil to Malta only to find out it held cocaine and wasn't such a daring stunt after all. It's happened before.
