This lacks the essential transparency in a field notorious for money-laundering , and can have grave consequences.

Malta’s reputation as a financial centre can be seriously tarnished if it transpires that Malta-based gaming companies are being used for money laundering.

Malta needs to tighten up its act in this area, and look for quality not quantity.

Similarly Malta had suffered in the maritime sector, by registering single-hull tankers resulting in the Erika sinking.

As a consequence Malta’s flag was black-listed by the US authorities. It took much hard work to recover Malta’s tarnished reputation.
