This is most evident in the behaviour of groups of Maltese travelling abroad, particularly in other European countries. (Aren’t we now one of them and on the road to being ‘de besst’ among them?)

They either hide (to avoid contact with locals – unless it’s for shopping) or flock together for comfort (safety being in numbers) or, the more pretentious among them, brag about the historic greatness of this island.

It is such circumstances that prove the maxim that you can take the man out of the village but you CAN’T take the village (mentality) out of the man.

There you can hear them attach a price to whatever they see (or choose to see) but then cannot appreciate the value of anything beyond the immediate and the direct.

I think we need a guest post on the decisions behind an investment process. Someone in the industry perhaps. Because there are so many misconceptions it’s painful.

Corporations do not decide to invest in a place X’s economy because the wife of the head of the executive branch of place X turns up at a mass event totally unrelated to the topic of investment, and waves at the crowd.

Then Bob must be living in Communist times.
