We often read that someone serving a suspended sentence was given another chance when they committed another crime.

This makes a mockery of probation. The judiciary needs to revise its sentencing guidelines for suspended sentences.

Such sentences should only be used for minor offences and should have other conditions attached, such as appropriate community service for the duration of the sentence.

Teachers are being expected to provide proof that they are not sex offenders, and this to protect the youngsters in their care.

At the same time, a serial sex offender is being permitted to organise parties at which these same youngsters are the guests.

Don’t the authorities feel responsible for these youngsters’ welfare after school hours?
