The reason is the fact that road signs are usually ordered from a supplier in Sicily. I learnt this when recently I requested my locality’s council to replace a road sign that had gone missing. Italians, as everyone knows, drive on the right side of the road.

In reply to John Zammit. No. The cyclist should be on the inner side close to the pavement, so they're driving on the left. This sign is simply a message of non-discrimination to owners of left-hand-drive cars in times of equality for all and ilkoll.

Does this mean that bikers have to be on the non-existent middle lane? And does this apply to left-hand drive cars only? Or to oncoming travel? I’m a bit confused here.
