We were talking about X company (an established company) and I said, “Well, I’m not surprised they supported Muscat. They planned to do roughly what they did before 1987 in terms of corruption to obtain business and tenders, and guess what, they’ve already started.”

The thing is, businesses and operators who participated in corruption before 1987 are quite happy with this government because in their way of thinking, corruption is not corruption but ‘just business’.

What’s the solution?

Without entering into a PL vs. PN argument, PL are doing an awful job of leading the country. They milk the system for their own advantage, and they furthermore do so with a crass abandon that dissuades businesses and attracts vampires which understand keenly how to take advantage of individuals which just want to “rake in money”.

Again without going into the merits or lack thereof of the Nationalist Party, the Labour government demonstrates repeatedly that it thinks of the population only in terms of votes down the line.

Nothing expressed this more than the whole hunting season mess. The continuous bombardment of alleged cases of corruption and misconduct is so powerful that every case numbs reactions to the other, and before long most people will just give up and pin everything on one of those hackneyed sayings like “This is what politics is” or “Mhux kollha jaghmlu li jridu” or “kulhadd jigbed lejn xawwatu”.

Did i say it was a tragicomedy? … ‘Cos it might actually be just a tragedy.
