The system itself is ridiculous. How can one expect an impounded vessel to remain anchored at Hurd’s Bank waiting for the Maltese authorities to take the next step, whatever that is?

Tankers anchored at Hurd’s Bank are outside Malta’s territorial waters and therefore according to Owen Bonnici, Transport Malta has no jurisdiction over them, unless they are registered in Malta.

One would expect that when a tanker is impounded it is escorted into the Grand Harbour.

Surely there should be some corner where the tanker can be held under constant security of our Armed Forces?

Do we really expect Minster Mizzi to accept responsibility for this latest farce?

Isn’t he burdened enough with trying his best to make a national tragedy of Malta’s public transport?

At least this he managed to do that, and under his leadership it looks like it will be even worse in the months to come.

Give credit where it is due.

I stand to be corrected, but I seem to remember Dom Mintoff once calling Joe Mizzi a “gidra”.
